International Roaming

Lumitel International Roaming Service (IRS/Roaming) is a service that allows subscribers to keep in touch while traveling internationally by using your own SIM card and number, applied to both prepaid and postpaid subscriber.

With connection to over 300 networks in 110 countries worldwide, you’ll feel just like home wherever you go with Lumitel Roaming.

  • Always keep in touch: You can keep contact (being able to make/ receive calls, send/receive SMS, using GPRS/ EDGE and other utilities…) by using your own number as usual even while you are travelling internationally.
  • Convenient and easy to use: When you turn on your phone, your SIM card will automatically connect to the Mobile Networks of the countries that have commercial roaming relationship with Lumitel.
  • Simple payment method: You can pay directly and solely to your home network (Lumitel).

1. Pricing

  • For calling: 1 minute + 1 minute block (charged from the first second).
  • For SMS: 160 characters/SMS.
  • Receiving SMS: Free.

  • Zone 1: Viettel Networks (Metfone/ Cambodia, Unitel/ Laos, Telemor/ Timor Leste, Natcom/ Haiti, Bitel/ Peru, Movitel/ Mozambique, Nexttel/ Cameroon).
  • Zone 2: Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, DRC, Kenya, Vietnam.
  • Zone 3: Congo, Central African Republic, Angola, South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, Morroco, Algeria, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Russia, Spain, Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arab, China, India, Japan, South Korea, USA, Canada, Australia.

2. How to use:

i)-  Prepaid subscribers

  • Roaming service is automatically activate for prepaid subscribers
  • Condition to use roaming: main account must has minimum of 1600Fbu.

ii). Postpaid subscribers

- FREE to register/cancel Roaming Service at any Lumitel shop.   

- Conditions to activate roaming:

  • All previous monthly bills must have been paid;
  • Deposit a minimum amount of 80,000 FBU. The deposited amount shall be limit for your roaming service. If you used up this amount, your account shall be temporary blocked until you recharge to your main account. Before blocking the number, Lumitel will send notification SMS.

3. Terms and conditions:

  • All VAS, Freetalk, Data packages and promotion are not applicable when roaming. The remaining free minutes, SMS or MB shall be restored once you come back to Burundi, as long as they don’t expired.
  • When you are in Burundi but at the border between Burundi and neighbour countries include: Tanzania, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo, your mobile phone may automatically roam on mobile networks of these countries. In this case, you are considered as our Roaming Service user and will be responsible to pay all accrued roaming expenses generated.
  • Similarly, if you are going abroad and stay at the border between this county and the third one, your mobile phone can also connect to the networks of the third country.
  • When you roam onto Viettel Networks (Metfone/ Cambodia, Unitel/ Laos, Telmor/ Timor Leste, Natcom/ Haiti, Bitel/ Peru, Movitel/ Mozambique, Nexttel/ Cameroon), the charging principle will be 6 seconds + 1 second.
